Hi! My name is Patrick, I am Swedish and I frequently visit Shanghai on business. My main hobby in life are cars! (please don't hate me too much for that) I am looking for places in Shanghai to buy "performance parts" for my cars. Parts that I am specifically looking for are electronic boost controls, gauges, silicone hoses and any other fun parts that I might find. Is there anyone here that knows where I can buy these things in Shanghai? Grateful for all answers. Thanks, Patrick

Fancy hobby! The only good tip I can personally give is spend an hour or two in Tianma on a weekend day (http://www.stc2002.com/etmswebsite/tms/6-1.htm). There is a few performance shops there. Also, there is a garage ran by an Italian guy (just ask around for him) who could easily answer all of your questions I'm certain. If your intention are also commercial, you may want to try Alibaba.com, Globalsource.com, Taobao.com (Asian based suppliers, manufacturers etc....). You may pickup a few connects there.
Hope this helps a bit and good luck

Hi Fred,
Thank you for your reply!
On another forum I was also recommended to visit Wuzhong Road (Hongqiao / Minhang District), does anyone here have any experience of that area?
My interest is purely personal, however I have a couple of cars that wouldn't mind some fancy new parts.
Cheers, Patrick

If your car is an economy version, yea the wuzhong lu auto place should have all you ever need of putting & sticking on a car! Seen nice car sound systems there. For perfomance parts you may find Tianma more switched on and 'professional'. I had a Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano or similar in mind

G'Day,
there are a few car tuners (shops) between Wuzhong Road (A20) and Qixin Road.

Hi!
Thank you for your replies!
I'll check out the different places next time I visit Shanghai (should be around the time of the F1). I can then share my experiences if you are interested.
Silicone (high-temp) hoses and bends are crazy expensive here in Sweden and finding a shop with that would be nice.
I'll probably start with Wuzhong/Qixin which is the closest as I probably will stay at the Garden Hotel on Maoming Lu.
Cheers, Patrick

Patrick, China is not exactly a ideal place to look for performance parts as the performance market is still very low tech + there are hardly anyone that has the tech knowhow in Shanghai. The Car mod scene in China is still very small and most are limited to exterior add on parts. The bits that you're looking for are NOT manufactured in China and these are all imported and the best region to look for these parts in China is in Guangdong area of Senzhen, Guangzhou as their close proximity to Hong Kong. I'd recommend for you to try to look for these parts in Hong Kong as the Mod culture are much longer then China and HK is a Duty free city that makes all car/Bike parts cheaper then everywhere else in the World.
Wujiang Road is not the ideal place as there are mostly OEM car dealers and the very few aftermarket part shops are alot more expansive then you buy in the US.
If you can give us a list of the parts you're looking for, we can ask our Hong Kong office to look for them for you in Hong Kong.
